Day 1:
Who (and what) is a crone? A look at the driftwood picture above might make you think of an old and wrinkled woman. But driftwood has aged and has character. There is substance to a piece of driftwood: it has weathered storms or floated aimlessly for many years or perhaps rested on a beach, waiting for its next act. There is wisdom and a story in every crevice and cranny…kind of like a Crone.
From a basic Goggle Search:
So — that is absolutely who WE ARE NOT. We may be old(er), says this septuagenarian, but there are plenty of life experiences to be shared. We’ve lived and survived many crises, personal and worldwide. Why shouldn’t we be considered a source of knowledge for the young’uns?
Also from Google:
What is crone wisdom?
The Crone is a symbol of inherent wisdom that comes from experience. She has lived through love, sorrow, hope, and fear, coming out of it all a wise and confident Spirit. Through these experiences she has learned the secrets of life and death and of the mysteries beyond this world.
This is much more like it. This is who we are. Now it is time to share what we have learned over the years, starting with practicing agapé — loving kindness and compassion every day.
Let us search the faces of those around us who need a smile, and give our broadest, most sincere one. We are Crones Who Care. Listen to the words of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, author of Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype.
“Though fairy tales end after ten pages, our lives do not. We are multi-volume sets. In our lives, even though one episode amounts to a crash and burn, there is always another episode awaiting us and then another. There are always more opportunities to get it right, to fashion our lives in the ways we deserve to have them.”
We need to step forward and greet every person, every sentient being, with loving kindness and compassion every single day. This will not be easy. After five years with agapé as my guide, I still find myself slipping back to old habits, ignoring the need for a kind word or a smile or an opened door.
But our purpose with agapé is to change our world one act of kindness at a time. I mentioned the butterfly effect in the previous post. Think of the flapping wings affecting weather across the globe. Think of a ripple, no matter how large, that reaches out, we know not where.
We can do this. We have to do this. We can lead and teach, the way elders did among our Indigenous people. Remember, women have always been powerful figures, and we are willing to fight for what we believe is true and right. Now is our time.
As long as we can, there will be no paywall to keep people from reading about what we are trying to do and are doing. Subscribe to keep up to date on our simple tasks - sometimes daily, sometimes a few days apart. Please feel free to comment - let’s get our Crone community going.
